The new upper-A arms for the front suspension had the bushings pressed in too much for installation. I’m popping those out (done on one side), and using the 72 ft-lb of torque applied to the bolt through the shock tower to press those into optimal position during installation.

I’m replacing the bushings on the long and short trailing arms in the rear. As I attempted to press out the trailing arm bushings, I pressed out too much (pressed out the sleeve too). Just ordered new major trailing arms so I don’t have to worry about that; just $100 poorer.

I have poly-replacements for the minor trailing arms. Hopefully the old ones pop out and new ones install with no issues. Already replaced the panhard rod with a new one that came with new bushings.

I found a shop that would press bushings— they wanted $15/bushing. That would have been up near $200 to do the whole job, so I’m dropping the 100 for the trailing arms and doing the rest myself. At least that way I’ll have the most critical elements of the rear suspension upgraded with new components. $15/bushing is a robbery for 2 mins of work; so goes modern car enthusiast life.

I have a harbor freight press. You can do it here.

I am likely nowhere near where you are.

Can’t you buy an arbor press at HF for like $35? It should be enough to press bushings.

Eh, unintentional. The “repair shops” couldn’t do it; NAPA has a machine shop that’ll do it. Sears ddin’t buy a new press after theirs broke. Midas said they just buy new arms and that the machine shop they used to send work out to closed down. Every shop has given me a blank look when I’ve said “do you know of any dedicated machine shops”.

But yah, give me 70s prices for my 70s car, and I’ll be a happy man. Better yet, send me back to the 50 era when any car could be fixed with a screwdriver, lamp cable and wrench set :)

Haha, Northern Virginia? How is the HF one? Saw that for $30 or so online, was thinking about picking it up to do the small bushings— I used a rental ball-joint remover to pop out the A-arm bushings. The rears I overdid and popped out the sleeves with the bushings, so I just bought new trailing arms. The olds one had a lot of surface rust anyways...

I’ll need a press-kit to pop out and install the new poly bushings for the minor trailing arms in the rear— the ball-joint press is too large to do that job; the HF kit should be just right...

This one, the big shop press. In St. Louis.

My cousin needed his Tacoma hub Bearing replaced, so he bought one set up by a guy for $300, then the bearing for $40 & we split the cost of the press at $90/ each. Then I pressed the new bearing on.

Not a bad tool for the $180 you’d spend, but the plates are kind of crappy.

I haven't needed the bushing press, every control arm I've changed has come with new ones.

Very cool! Much better than spending $250 on a handheld press...

At this point, with all the new control arms I’m throwing on, I’m honestly worried it’ll be so stiff that the unibody will warp before the arms break :-P
